Frequently asked questions.

What will the counselling session be like?

The initial session will be an opportunity for you to share your north star, or how you’d like to feel differently, after counselling is done. You’ll share your story and I will guide you in a detailed way, to allow for introspection and reflection. We will discuss the direction and next steps of your counselling journey and provide tools for grounding and regulating your nervous system, for ongoing presence and ability to make choices.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is a psychotherapy approach that helps people heal from distressing life experiences, particularly trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It involves recalling distressing memories while a therapist guides you through a series of bilateral eye movements, hand taps, or auditory tones, which is thought to help your brain reprocess the memory and reduce its emotional intensity. The goal is to desensitize the individual to the trauma so the memory is no longer as emotionally charged.

What is ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique approach to psychotherapy. ART is unique because the ART Therapist guides the client to replace the negative images in the mind that cause the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress with positive images of the client’s choosing. And this is done quickly, most often within one session! Once the negative images have been replaced by positive ones, the triggers will be gone. Nightmares and repeated intrusive thoughts will stop.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to mental health that emphasizes the connection between the mind and body, viewing them as intrinsically linked rather than separate entities. It operates on the principle that emotional and psychological distress, particularly trauma, can become "trapped" in the body and manifest as physical tension, chronic pain, or other symptoms. Unlike traditional talk therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which primarily focus on thoughts and behaviors, somatic therapy treats the body as the starting point for healing, using a "bottom-up" processing approach that begins with bodily sensations rather than cognitive or emotional experiences
